OctaGate DNS has very light requirements. In fact, DNS load balancing doesn't
actually require much capacity. Every new user contacts the DNS server only once
per session - to request an address. After that, the user only communicates with
the server that was returned by the DNS server.
OctaGate DNS requires;
At least one server that can run the OctaGate DNS software - preferably
two or more on separate computers. The OctaGate DNS server can run on any
Windows NT machine and even co-exist with other servers (Web, Mail, etc). The
OctaGate DNS license allows you to run OctaGate DNS for on servers.
All your servers that should be load balanced must have at least one
external IP number that they can be reached at. OctaGate DNS can not load
balance over servers that can't be individually reached.
You must delegate your DNS domains to be handled by OctaGate DNS. Consult
your ISP about how to do this.
If you have a firewall, you must open ports 53 and 19072 for both UDP and
TCP traffic.
OctaGate DNS does not require that you install any additional software
on your web servers / ftp server etc.
