What is OctaGate DNS?

OctaGate DNS is an load balancing authoritative DNS server. It is NOT a DNS cache.

Please see here for an Overview of OctaGate DNS.

What platforms does OctaGate DNS work on?

OctaGate DNS currently works on;

  • Windows NT 4.0

  • Windows 2000

  • Windows XP

  • Windows Server 2003

No versions for Windows 98 or Windows ME are currently planned.

What kind of performance can OctaGate DNS manage?

That depends on what hardware you're using and the internet connection leading up to the OctaGate DNS server. But to give you some idea, it can easily manage 500 requests per second. Since most users will only make ONE request to the OctaGate DNS server, this number comes out to 43 million unique visitors per day.

As a matter of fact, given the right hardware and internet connections, the numbers are actually much higher than that. On a local 100 megabit connection, we can easily sustain over 2000 requests per second. That comes out to 173 million unique visitors per day.
