Load Balancing DNS Server

OctaGate DNS is a load balancing solution with failover that scales extremely well and has no single point of failure.

OctaGate DNS™

OctaGate DNS is Load Balancing DNS server that will allow you to balance your load over any number of servers. OctaGate DNS performs failover and advanced load balancing.

The main features are

  • Failover
  • Load Balancing
  • No "Single Points of Failure"
  • Per server capacity rating - don't load all servers equally, load them by capacity
  • (under development) Location Based Server Selection

OctaGate DNS does not simply use Round Robin, which is a very blunt tool with no failover. Instead it actively polls servers to make sure that they are still up and working correctly and keeps track of the load they're under.

Please see here for an Overview of OctaGate DNS.

Round Robin

Round Robin is a form of load sharing that's frequently used on DNS servers. But Round Robin does NOT feature failover, and it does NOT allow you to set capacity per server.

OctaGate DNS features both true load balancing with per server capacity and failover.
